Our client is a well established and successful company creating innovative and embedded software for European technology companies, in sectors ranging from telecommunications to biosciences and manufacturing. The company is based in a great location with easy access to the A1 and close to the lovely market town of Hitchin.If you are a graduate with 2 years' post graduate experience, or a software engineer with upwards of five years experience, this a great opportunity to join a software engineering team delivering both real-time embedded software and associated control and monitoring applications across a diverse range of platforms and technologies. The applications utilise a hybrid ‘best of breed’ iterative development process. The position is primarily based inhouse but will also involve some working directly on client site.Experience and SkillsThe following are all key requirements for this position:• Experience developing real-time embedded software using C/C++.• A strong academic background with a degree from a reputable university.• At least five years' experience in a commercial software engineering role.• Experience developing Java or C# /.NET monitoring and control applications.• Experience developing using an object orientated methodology.Important Qualities• Very strong education / university background with superior knowledge of mathematics, computer science (embedded), physics and a very keen interest in all things engineering.• Software Engineers must have excellent written and verbal skills in English (UK). Our client's customers receive a high level service and all software engineers must be capable of writing documentation to accompany the software created.• Customer interfacing skills. The majority of our client's work is customer driven, therefore software engineers must be able to communicate professionally with the customer.• Software Engineers must be able to work in the UK and if required be eligible for UK Security Clearance.• Software Engineers must be located within the Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire area. Most of our client's customers are in Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire and the jobs entail a degree of customer site work, the duration of which may vary from a few days to a few months. Therefore being local to North Herts is highly desirable.Preferred -Any experience within the telecommunications or utility sectors.
